Terp to Table Presents: Hemingway Daiquiri

Death in the Afternoon

We at Abstrax like to consider ourselves fairly well read. At least a few of our team members indicated that Ernest 'Papa' Hemingway is a staple on their home bookshelves (or e-readers for that matter).

The larger then life, 'man's man' of a writer (his house has a fountain made from a urinal of his favorite bar) made no bones about his love of 3 things : Writing, Boxing, and Drinking.

So when it came time to put our collective heads together for National Daiquiri Day, deciding to honor Papa Hemingway with a twist on this classic cocktail was a veritable no brainer.

Hemingway fell in love with this version of the daiquiri during his time in Cuba, and almost always preferred it without the added sugar (of course).

At the end of the Afternoon, we leave the addition of simple syrup to you.

Here's the recipe:

2 oz white rum (this writer in particular prefers Meyers Platinum White)

1/4 oz marashcino liquor

1/2 oz grapefruit juice

1/2 oz lime juice

1 drop Grapefruit Kush OR D-Limonene terpenes

1/4 oz simple syrup, optional

A lime wedge, to garnish.

And the method…

Pour all ingredients into a shaker filled with ice.

Shake like crazy, until the shaker is nice and frosty.

Strain into a chilled glass of your choice (Hemingway carved his own glasses from granite, with his teeth)

Garnish with lime wedge.

Enjoy Death in the Afternoon.
