Here's the recipe…
…and the method
At Abstrax, we're fans of finding any reasons whatsoever to celebrate.
Today's cause for celebration : National Strawberry Shortcake Day!
Because, Why Not?
This delectable treat first appeared in an English cookbook dating back to 1588! By the mid 1800s the dessert was seeing popular appeal in the United States, especially in the South. The Strawberry varietal of this decadent offering is indeed the most popular, but it's not uncommon for peaches, blueberries, or even chocolate to take on the leading role.
Originally strawberry shortcake was comprised of biscuits or pieces of broken up pie crust served with fruit, butter, and sweet cream.
In the early 1900's French pastry chefs opted to replace the butter and sweet cream with good old heavy whipped cream. This is ideal for us because terpenes happen to love expressing themselves through the medium of whipped cream; more on that in a second.
If you want to go the full nine and make your biscuits from scratch, we're not going to stop you. It's a relatively straightforward method involving cutting cold butter into your flour to make your dough. We will say it is worth the mess and effort : those little pockets of butter become divine upon baking, and the biscuits themselves are tender, flaky, and flavorful.
But if you're like us, you may not have the time, space, or inclination for full on production like this. In this light, we present to you our Strawberry Shortcut Cake.
Sometimes you have to let the market work for you, and that's what we've done here. Those tubes of Pillsbury style biscuits work absolutely fine, cook up perfectly and leave zero mess behind.
The strawberries speak for themselves here. Get them at their peak and they will do most of the heavy lifting.
The Terp-Cream here, for us, really steals the show though. Terpenes are soluble in fats or alcohol, and as such, they take nicely to the heavy cream in this recipe.
After the terps are incorporated into the mix and aerated, you get a delicious whipped cream where the terpenes are expressed beautifully and directly.
There are no other competing flavors to get lost in: you absolutely, unambiguously taste the Strawberry Cheesecake Terpenes that we've opted to use in this recipe.
So tonight, when you're in need of a quick dessert fix and you feel like celebrating National Strawberry Shortcake Day with the rest of us, set aside a few minutes, grab your terps, and whip up this delicious treat.
