What is Toll Processing?

Imagine you have multiple hop lots and crop years with varying oil content, sensory character, and quality. Send them to us, and we’ll use the most advanced extraction techniques to squeeze out every last drop of flavor and aroma to consolidate those disparate lots into a standardized and shelf-stable Quantum Series Extract

We aren’t formulating mystery blends, and our proprietary extraction process prevents the formation of off-notes caused by dimethyl trisulfide (DMTS).

The best part? Anyone can do this! From macrobreweries to microbreweries and even nanobreweries, anyone who wants to transform their whole hops or pellets into a Quantum Extract can easily do so.

How Much Does Toll Processing Cost?

We charge $3.89 per ½ fl oz of Quantum produced. Now, let’s put that into perspective.

If you bought 500 lbs of hops/pellets at $10/lb, then you send it to us to process. With an average yield, from 500 lbs, we return to you 1,239 fl oz of Quantum. That is the dosing equivalent of 2,478 lbs of hops.

Your initial 500 lbs of hops has now quintupled, and that initial $10/lb only actually cost you $5.91/lb — for FIVE TIMES THE RETURN!

Why Use Abstrax Toll Processing?

Abstrax Toll Processing provides exponential cost savings AND it helps you get the most out of the hops you already have. Between tariffs and shifting consumer preferences, saving money has never been more important for breweries.

Sitting on unused hops can be very costly. Every inch of space in a brewery is a valuable resource, and hop cones and pellets take up a lot of space. Hops also lose volatile aromatics over time even with the best storage methods.

Instead of wasting storage space, watching hop quality diminish, and/or selling surplus hops at a loss, breweries can use Toll Processing to extend the life of those hops while saving on storage space.

Additionally, Quantum Extracts don’t require workflow modifications, they don’t soak up potential beer, and they don’t require refrigeration before opening. That means there’s no additional labor required to use them, no additional labor to clean gunk from the tank, and no additional labor required to haul them into cold-storage before using them.

Plus, every 1 lb processed into Quantum gives breweries a dosing equivalent of 5 lbs. Now, that 1 lb of unused T90 is worth the flavor and aroma of 5 lbs!

Compared to cones and pellets, hop-derived Quantum weighs less, costs less to ship, and takes up less space. On top of that, these profiles offer a 100% utilization rate and can be used at any stage of the brewing process with zero yield loss.

Future Proof Your Hops with Omni

Are you a microbrewery and can’t find what you need on the spot market? Are limited quantities of popular varieties OR industry-wide shortages impacting your hop bill?

We can help! Send us your hops so we can recreate them FOREVER as Omni Hop Profiles.

Omni Hop Profiles are sourced from hops and other sustainable botanicals. We then layer in terpenes and other compounds to formulate, replicate, and standardize the flavor and aroma of your hops so it can be recreated again and again regardless of supply.

Ease surplus issues and brew with the consistent flavor and aroma of your preferred hop year after year.

Flavor & Aroma Benefits of Abstrax Toll Processing

Let’s be real. Saving money is important, but not at the cost of quality. Fortunately, Abstrax Toll Processing preserves the unique flavor and aroma of your hops!

Compared to other hop-extracts, Quantum Extracts taste better and perform better. They’ve been designed from the ground up to preserve the most volatile aromatics and contain no acids, chlorophyll, lipids, or waxes to pollute the delicate flavor and aroma of your hops.

When you use Toll Processing, you get back an extract with consistent flavor and aroma across ALL batches regardless of the original lot or year. That means no flavor drift and no scrambling to rebalance recipes.

Unlike hops and pellets, Quantum extracts have a 100% efficient aroma transfer. While you can never be certain of how much flavor and aroma will be imparted into the beer when using hops or pellets, Quantum extracts are flowable liquids that disperse immediately and completely. Just add to your brite tank and get immediate aroma.

The Quantum Series from Abstrax absolutely rules. The hop aroma and flavor are unbelievable. I haven't found any other hop product that produces such a pure bright hop expression. The cost savings are also a great bonus, but I'm far more excited about how fun the flavors are to play with.

Having Quantum extracts at the ready also gives you added flavor flexibility. Is a specific hop pairing suddenly trending? Are more and more of your customers asking you to add hop water to your menu? The ease with which you can brew with Quantum extracts means you can quickly pivot when demand or inspiration strikes!

Easy Benchtop Brewing with Quantum

Instantly understand the flavor impact of your unique Quantum extract by dosing directly into packaged beer or carbonated water!

Using a micropipette, start benchtop experiments with a 0.25 oz/bbl dosing rate (0.065 mL/L). Put more simply, try one drop per pint to start.

In practice, brewers have used anywhere between 0.3 and 2 oz/bbl. Just remember that a little goes a long way, so seltzers or hop waters likely won’t need as much.

NOTE: Consider dosing Quantum in a growler and tasting after 24–48 hours to allow the terpenic edge to mellow out.
