Tropical flavors are no longer a seasonal novelty, they’re a cross-category growth engine.
Across beer, hop water, RTDs, carbonated soft drinks, and functional beverages, tropical fruit profiles are shifting from limited-time releases to core portfolio staples. Younger consumers are driving demand for bright, globally inspired flavors that offer a sense of sensory escape, and industry trend data¹ continues to show strong growth momentum for tropical flavors in North America.
Fruits like Passionfruit and Dragon Fruit are no longer niche. They deliver perceived natural sweetness, refreshment, and versatility. These factors help align beverages with low- and no-alcohol preferences, clean-label trends, and functional formulations² when they’re paired with botanicals or performance ingredients.
The opportunity is clear for beverage developers, but so is the challenge. Tropical flavors must perform across formats, balancing aroma, sweetness perception, and acidity whether in a crisp hop water, a complex THC drink, or a sparkling RTD.
For formulators that want to create differentiated, commercially competitive products, these are the tropical flavors your customers are shopping for.
The Skyarm Series is a collection of TTB-approved fruit flavors for brewing craft beers and beverages. These high-amplitude flavors are built with terpenes for the ultimate consistency, ensuring the same flavor in every season. Use “Natural Flavors” on your ingredient list for a clean finished label.
Passionfruit might just be the breakout flavor of the summer, if not for the entirety of 2026. It may not currently be as prevalent as Pineapple and Mango, but Mintel’s Flavourscape AI lists it as an “emerging” flavor with stable growth, meaning there’s still plenty of time to get in on the hype.
Passionfruit has a bright acidity that’s tart and tangy, slightly floral, and it has just the right amount of sweetness to balance everything without being cloying. It’s a natural fit for functional beverages, RTDs, and CSDs leaning into fruit fusions. Plus, Innova Market Insights lists guava-passionfruit and orange-passionfruit as popular flavor fusions.³ Check out the Monster Zero Ultra Wild Passion Energy Drink to see what we mean.⁴
Breweries wanting to play up the Passionfruit in their next summer beer can lean into Nectaron® or Galaxy®. Their natural tropical qualities will add emphasis to this complex fruit flavor. For something more adventurous, consider pairing Passionfruit with cannabis flavors like Sour Tangie and Acapulco Gold. The former will add dank citrusy depth, while Acapulco Gold will add a golden, honeyed sweetness.
Consumers are clearly curious about this global flavor. The Kerry 2026 Global Taste Chart explains that while it’s traditionally been rooted in Asian markets, Dragon Fruit has become a breakout global flavor that’s reshaping refreshment categories across Europe and the Americas, “thanks to its mild, subtly sweet profile, the flavour is making waves in confectionary and alcoholic formats, with consumer interest surging during summer months.” ⁵
Often described as a blend of kiwi, pear, and citrus, Dragon Fruit pairs well with classic Citra® to add brightness, Amarillo® for floral notes, and/or Talus® for additional tropical qualities and a subtle creaminess.
Hazies, sour ales, and even Kölsch styles can get an exciting lift from Dragon Fruit, and pairing with unexpected Pink RNTZ can give it an herbal, candy-quality that would be positively mouthwatering in an RTD or hop water. Also, don’t hesitate to pair Dragon Fruit with vibrant citrus, as seen in the Organic Pineapple Dragon Fruit Probiotic Soda from Evolution.⁶
Increasingly popular in functional, vitamin-rich, and better-for-you (BFY) beverages, Guava is another rising star in the 2026 beverage space. Mintel notes its stable growth momentum, and Guava is now an exciting tool in new profiles like “newstalgia” and “swicey” (sweet-spicy).
For example, BevSource explains that nostalgic classics like fruit punch can get a bright update with guava and something like guava-jalapeño can satisfy cravings for swicey profiles in a way that’s more mature and layered. ⁷ This lends itself well to just about every format we can think of, but particularly to functional beverages, RTDs, and hop waters.
Consider pairing uniquely musky Guava with Krush™ for resinous stone fruit or Elani® for soft florals and brisk pine. Admittedly, we’re drooling at the thought of a Hazy IPA with a luscious blend of Guava and gassy King Louie XIII or a sour with Guava and the diesel-forward stone fruit in Cherry Pie.
You really can’t go wrong when pairing Guava with just about any other tropical fruit, though. One sip of the 2026 release Malibu Pink and you’ll be reaching for the luscious combo of Guava, Pineapple, and Coconut all summer long.⁸
Consumers recognize Mango, they enjoy Mango, and they can’t stop buying Mango-flavored beverages. At this point, it’s less a beverage “trend” and more a beverage “staple.” The trick now is leveraging this wildly popular fruit flavor in innovative ways.
This sweet and lightly sour stone fruit can play a starring or supporting role in swicey and swavoury (sweet-savory) profiles, cannabis flavored seltzers and sodas, functional beverages, and premium cocktail-style offerings. We’re imagining a Mango Sticky Rice Lager, a Mango Habanero RTD Margarita, or maybe a Mango Mint Probiotic Soda. One look at the upcoming Starbucks summer drink menu and you’ll see Mango paired with cream, matcha, chai, and more.⁹
The native mango notes in Strata® and Azacca® will easily pair with Mango, while something like Simcoe® can add a rich layer of dankness. However, if you really want that rich, resinous quality with your mango, consider pairing it with White RNTZ for a dank, creamy base with bright citrus.
Similar to Mango, the name of the game with Pineapple is going to be innovation. Mintel explains that Pineapple is a leading tropical flavor that consistently ranks among the top five flavor components in juice launches in North America.¹⁰ Assuming that Pineapple isn’t a major player in other formats, however, would be a mistake.
First, craft brewers have long known that pineapple makes an excellent addition in any Hazy IPA, wheat, Berliner Weisse, Kolsch, and the list goes on. This recognizable fruit flavor also creates opportunity for nostalgia, spice combos, and flavor fusions that lean into functional positioning. Think a dirty soda inspired by the pina colada, a pineapple chili kombucha, or a Pineapple Express CBD drink.
Vic Secret™ should be a go-to when you want hop-forward beverages to sing with notes of pineapple, but El Dorado® should also be a contender with its blend of florals and stone fruit. Obviously, Pineapple Express is a no-brainer for those who want cannabis-inspired flavors, but a less obvious and equally delicious option is Grapefruit Kush.
Want to get a taste of Pineapple in action? Check out the Hazy IPA from Mystical Misfit. It’s got vibrant tropical notes of Pineapple, Kiwi, and Orange with a lightly dank, piney resin character.¹¹
We would be remiss if we didn’t include honorable mentions for Yuzu, Banana, and Papaya.
Yuzu is a supremely tart next-gen citrus that easily pairs with other tropical fruits as well as popular botanicals like lavender, mint, and rose. Grab a Monster Energy Lando Norris the next time you see one and experience a juicy combo of Yuzu and Melon!¹²
While pairing Yuzu with something like Citra® would make a lot of sense, we’re looking forward to a beverage that pairs Yuzu with Motueka®, Riwaka, or the hazy burst of gas in Super Lemon Haze.
Banana may seem commonplace, but it’s an underdog worth betting on. One sip of the Banana Cream Prebiotic Soda from Olipop and you’ll feel bad about sleeping on banana. ¹³ This flavor is ripe, creamy, ecstatically fruity, and would create a unique pairing with hops like creamy, candy-like Dolcita™ and dank, tropical Strata®. Also, it may seem like an odd couple, but we think Banana and Blue Dream have delicious potential!
Lastly, like Passionfruit and Guava, Papaya satisfies the growing consumer urge to travel and experience the world through global flavors. It’s dank, tropical, and a bit hard to pin down. For that reason, we recommend grounding it in reality with more familiar hop profiles like Mosaic® with its funky grapefruit and pine. Don’t care about familiarity? Lean into totally unexpected, out-of-this-world profiles and pair Papaya with Super Sour Diesel!
